Colon Hydrotherapy comes to Lebanon

The Poop on Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon Hydrotherapy is the extended and complete form of an enema. It is the mechanical infusion of warm, filtered water in to the rectum. An enema typically goes no further into colon than through the rectum and into the sigmoid colon. Colon hydrotherapy is a continuous flow of warm water into eventually all four of the colons rinsing the walls of the colon to soften and carry away excess dried fecal matter, restoring the flexibility to the muscle of the colon walls and allowing normal peristaltic movement. Also since the purified water is being allowed into the colon for 45 minutes, a person is never more hydrated throughout the body than after having received one of theses treatments.

In the ancient past, the Egyptians recorded that they used enemas or clysters to rid the body of disease and dysfunction as early as 1500 BC.  They considered this to be a form of cleansing just as the outside of the body needs to be washed.  All throughout history, through many stages of human development rich and poor alike, understood that the colon is the breeding ground for disease and afflictions of the body.

In recent history here in the United States colon hydrotherapy was introduced in the early 1900’s by Dr. Kellogg. He reported in the 1917 Journal of American Medicine that in 40,000 cases with change in diet, exercise patterns, and regular colon hydrotherapy; "in all but 20 cases" he used no surgery for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in his patients.

By the early 1950’s colon hydrotherapy was flourishing in the US. The prestigious Beverly Boulevard in California was then known as colonic row.   Toward the middle 1960’s the use of colon hydrotherapy slowly dwindled until around 1972 when most colon therapy instruments were removed from hospitals and nursing homes. Doctors tended to gravitate toward palliative methods such as drugs like laxatives and surgical procedures.

Today with all the emphasis on the highly toxic world we live in, the tendency is toward more natural methods of averting major disease and minor discomforts.

Why is colon hydrotherapy good for us? Especially in the United States, our poor diets, lack of general exercise and little water consumption leaves us with little fiber to move debris onward and out as it should, often resulting in constipation and sometimes even more series problems like bowel impaction and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which if left untreated could eventually escalate into colitis or Crohn’s disease.

Did you know that 80% of the complaints brought to the emergency room are disease and functional disturbances of the digestive organs? IBS is the number one cause of being out of work and school behind the common cold. Colon cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the US today.

So what is the experience like to be on a colon hydrotherapy system?

It is very simple really and the devices are so much more sophisticated than they once were. The client who arrives for the first visit is asked to fill out paper work.  Along with the normal filling in of name and address the paperwork includes a list of contraindications for colon hydrotherapy.*  The next section is for the client to indicate the digestive issues from which they are suffering and other related health questions.

When finished with all that the client will go into the cozy therapy room for the procedure.  It is an open system and the client is seated on a resting commode of sorts. One’s body is at about a 25degree angle of a tilted toilet bowl. Instructions on how to get on and how to insert the nozzle into the rectum will be given and the therapist leaves the room and allows ample time for the client to get on to the system. The therapist will not insert the nozzle for the client.

Once on the system the therapist then explains the clients expectations of what will be happening as follows:

"In a little while you will turn on the water supply to your nozzle and warm water will gently begin filling your rectum and beyond. During most of this time you will be alone and you should close your rectal sphincter around the tube and allow your colons to receive the water to the point that you feel the urge to push. Release the water as often as you need. Try to hold the water to fill further and further into the colons."

"In a short time you will receive a warm pillow to put on your tummy and this along with massage done by yourself (or a licensed massage therapist to massage for you) will allow the water to rinse away fecal debris that is slowly becoming loosened by the bath. The debris expelled goes down into the system and can be viewed through an illuminated clear glass tube. "

The therapist is largely out of the room with quick checks every 10 minutes or so. There is a bell with which to summon the therapist if needed.

When the therapist returns to shut off the water the client will be instructed how to remove the tube and what to expect when getting off the table. The client will be instructed on how express the last amount of water before rinsing and drying and getting dressed to leave.

Once the client is finished a brief trip to the rest room may be needed. Discussing further treatments with the therapist may help a client to decide if this type of treatment is beneficial for him or her particular problem.
Colonics are said to be most beneficial when received in a series because it takes a while to loosen debris from the colon wall that took years to build up.
The contraindications for Colonics are if you have ever been diagnosed with any of the following:
  1. Abdominal Hernia
  2. Post Abdominal surgery
